Cargill to exhibit new texturizing solutions at Food Ingredients Asia
MECHELEN, BELGIUM — SEPTEMBER 2007 — Cargill will demonstrate its tailored texturizing solutions approach for a wide range of food processing applications in the Asia Pacific markets at this year’s Food Ingredients Asia Exhibition –Bangkok, 26-28 September 2007.
A highlight of the stand will be Cargill’s Actistar™ range of slow energy release resistant starches. Both Actistar™ RT and Actistar™ RM will be demonstrated in a new application that visitors to the Cargill booth will have the opportunity to taste: healthy, high fibre noodles with all the traditional characteristics of this popular Asian staple product, including a silky smooth texture.
Actistar™ RT, a resistant tapioca starch with 80% total dietary fiber, provides a unique opportunity to significantly boost levels of fibre in many carbohydrate products through partial flour substitution, without detracting from their desired taste, texture or appearance. It has a low water holding capacity, permitting high levels of inclusion with minimal formulation changes.
Actistar™ RM, made with 50% maltodextrin, has a very fine particle size and pleasant, non-sandy mouth feel. This is a particular advantage for instant beverage applications where a very smooth texture is important.

For the confectionery market, Cargill will present gelatin-free opaque candies made with Protex™ PG 715. This new hydrocolloid addresses growing international consumer demand for vegetarian confectionery with a healthier image. Suitable for a wide range of flavored candy, from mild to intensely fruity, Protex™ PG 715 provides superior flavor release properties at low dosage levels.
By applying this product the main benefit for confectionery manufacturers is the excellent heat stability and the fast demoulding capacity.
Cargill will also present a cost effective solution for replacing gelatin in clear gellies and fruit gums: CIClearSet™ 75505 is an innovative modified starch that can be used to replace up to 40% gelatin, resulting in gummy jellies which retain all their brightness and clarity of color.
For the beverage manufacturer, Cargill will demonstrate an innovative prototype for a nutritional peanut dairy drink with a smooth texture and pleasant taste. A complete meal replacement product based on a combination of milk and plant protein, Peanut Milk is stabilized with a special functional system blend produced at Cargill's new Beijing plant. Other protein-based sports and meal replacement drinks available from Cargill include Walnut Milk and Almond Milk.
