Locust bean gum

Manufacturing process

Locust bean gum can be used as flour, or as extracts.

Flour manufacturing process

  • The grain is dehusked
  • After moderate crushing, the splits are separated from the germ
  • Flour is obtained by grinding the splits
  • Locust bean gum producers peel the seeds and separate the endosperm from the germ
  • The subsequent grinding process of the endosperm consists of various production steps and strongly influences the product characteristics of the locust bean gum

Extracts manufacturing process

  • The raw material is dissolved by cooking in hot water
  • The insoluble material is filtered out using filter earth
  • The clarified solution is precipitated in isopropyl alcohol
  • The coagulum is rinsed in alcohol, then pressed, vacuum dried, ground and sieved

Locust bean gum is produced in our Fez (Morocco) plant and extracts of locust bean gum are produced in our Baupte plant, Normandy (France).
